Position: Hospitality Manager
Employment Type: Full Time
Reporting to: General Manager
Location: Bowmanville, Ontario 

 

Our retirement community is seeking an individual focused on customer service to fulfill the role of Hospitality Manager.  In this role you will be responsible for overseeing meal service delivery and the dining experience for our residents and guests in our elegant dining room.This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate be a member of the management team, ensuring that residents and guests enjoy an unequalled dining experience.  This is an excellent entry level management opportunity for a candidate who prioritizes excellence in customer service.
 
The successful candidate’s areas of responsibility will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Monitoring daily meal service to ensure that the residents’ and guests’ dining experience exceeds their expectations; 
  • Reviewing menus before mealtimes;
  • Efficiently serving meals, desserts, tea, and coffee to residents and guests during meal service time;
  • Ensuring serveries and all work areas are clean and uncluttered; re-stocking the café or other areas with food and beverages, as directed;
  • To work collaboratively with the Food Services Manager / cook in the preparation of food items, as required; assisting in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies;
  • Working with the Food Services Manager or designate to understand and resolve concerns of residents and guests by making recommendations about corrective action;
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with residents and their families in order to determine individual needs and evaluate resident satisfaction; 
  • Support any special event plans, as required;
  • Monitoring and ensuring expenditures related to the dining room and front of the house equipment is within monthly budgets;
  • Organizing the cleaning schedule and regular equipment checks in order to maintain Public Health Standards;
  • Observing applicable food services policies and procedures to act as an ambassador for best practices to staff; 
  • Supervisory responsibilities include recruiting, orientation, and ongoing training; scheduling, assigning, and monitoring work; providing guidance and direction and evaluating performance; ensuring staff maintain a safe and sanitary working environment; resolving employee conflicts, and recommending/participating in disciplinary and/or termination actions, as required;
  • Other related duties, as assigned. 

The key qualifications for this position will include, but are not limited to: 
  • The ideal candidate has at least two (2) years of supervisory and serving experience in a high-volume dining environment in the hospitality industry;
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in food and beverage management is preferred;
  • Must have Smart Serve and required food safety/sanitation certifications;
  • Knowledge of special and therapeutic diets;
  • Ability to read, write, and accurately follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Ability to communicate to our senior residents, their families, colleagues, in a friendly and professional manner;
  • The ability to conduct your work on a computer utilizing Microsoft Office programs; 
  • Effective time management skills to plan, organize, and direct meal service delivery; the ability to focus on multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment; 
  • Demonstrated, hands-on leadership skills to successfully oversee all aspects the front of the house serving team;
  • Working knowledge of meal service delivery techniques/best practices, exceptional customer service practices, inventory management, and instituting ongoing quality improvements;
  • Must be knowledgeable of pertinent legislation and regulations including the Retirement Homes Act, 2010and its regulations;
  • A criminal records/vulnerable sector screen, TB screening using a two-step Mantoux tuberculin test, and satisfactory professional references.
